How long can a person last with an addiction to cocaine?

This is a question movies have made me curious about… assuming no drug overdose, and a reasonable attempt to keep working and earning money to pay for it… how long could a person continue to use a drug like cocaine and remain a semi-functioning member of society? Is it indefinite, or will the addiction eventually bring a person down regardless?

i will end up taking the person under
No it will deffinately bring you down eventually
It would eventually bring down a person. Just the chemicals alone will first begin to eat away the septum in the nose, then the cilia in the lungs, the alveoli, then it will enter various organs of the body from the blood and will eventually eat them away too. Not to mention what it does to brain. The brain tells the body to do everything via stimulation. If your neurons no longer funtion due to chemically enhances death, then there is no way for your body to defend itself against various objects foreign or domestic (body induced). Homeostasis would no longer be possible.
I really don’t know because for different people it’s different. I know a artist here in Portland who I believe is still using and has been for about 35 years that I know of.
