My Life Is Going Down Hill; What Should I Do?
Question by Ryan: My life is going down hill; what should i do?
I am 15 years old, and a sophomore in high school. My parents are Asians and have high expectations for me and my future. My sister was recently accepted into Cornell University, so you can picture what type of state I am in. I have experienced through stress throughout my entire life, even when I was born. I was born with a breathing disability so it slows me down when I play basketball, swimming, and baseball, which I all love. I’ve been always told that I was top of my Honor classes in Mathematics. On the other hand, time has passed by and my math skills have been deteriorating. I extremely addicted to games, and it is overshadowing my education. I know that games should be played on extra time, but I cannot stop playing games. I need a ‘click’ to inform myself what state I am exactly in. Each day I lose hope in myself and contemplate between death and living. I want to be back to being a highly gifted student, where everyone is respecting me and my intelligence, and not everyone informing that I should be like my sister. I cant ask my parents this, so I need as much help as possible.
Thank all of you so much.

The only logical thing you could do is put the games aside for a bit and get back to studying hard. I’m sure the more you study the faster you’ll get back to that scholarly position you had before. Dont get me wrong, it will be hard for you to stop or slow down the gaming. I play games alot too but I’ve come to find out that my education is far superior to any game. Once you realze that, it’ll be much easier for you. I’m going through almost the same thing except my parents don’t have anyone to compare me to and i’m only 13. They just want me to do the best at all times. Which is why I’ve started studying and my grades came back up to how they once were. All you need to do is re-apply yourself and you’ll get right back there.

Work on the “addiction” to games…this is very very important….. Stop saying that you “cannot” stop playing games. Map out a plan to stop and stick with it.
Ask yourself before playing games how the time spent is contributing positively toward your life.
Start by using the games playing to reward yourself for studying etc. If you study for 1 hour play one short game….
Stop focusing on your limitations and focus on your strengths.
learn how your subconscious mind works and self talk and how it is important that your self talk be positive.
