If Addiction Is in Your Family, if You Weren’t Raised by Them Is It Possible to Inherit the Predisposition?

Question by ? Rachel ?: If addiction is in your family, if you weren’t raised by them is it possible to inherit the predisposition?
I am adopted and both my biological parents have had mental health problems. My mother quite serious and my father had serious addiction problems. I have had a really good, sheltered life, but as I grow older I feel like there is more appearing. I’ve had anxieties all my life and food addiction. I just wonder whether it could be inherited or not? My adoptive parents aren’t like that at all.

i would say yes . but its up to you how you handle it, do you give in or be a better person just knowing that the potential for serious addition there should give you a heads up to stay away from things that could become addictive there are some great meds to help with this the trick is finding what works for you or try some at home things and talk with a professional about ways to handle stress and anxiety. i know that oranges are great to help sniffing them or even putting a few peals in a tub with you my oldest carries some Lavender scented lotion in her purse and puts some on her hands and under her nose to help calm her. there’s always a better way then drugs and most of the drugs like pot will increase anxiety and depression. don’t let it drag you in. at least you had a good up bringing and that’s half the battle
