Can Second Hand Smoking Cause Addiction?
Question by ?Jessa: Can second hand smoking cause addiction?
I have a group of friends who I hang out with, I’d say, at most three times in a month. They’re all 17-20. They smoke. A LOT. They don’t try to get me to smoke, they don’t push ANYTHING on me, but whenever I hang out with them I remember the scent of the smoke, almost as if it’s right in front of me, and it’s almost appealing. I’m seriously getting afraid that one day I’m going to want to just take one and smoke it.
I can’t smoke. I’m a singer, I’m an actress, I don’t find smoking morally wrong or anything, I don’t judge smokers, I just don’t want to get involved with it. It’s that simple. My friends understand.
But I remember that scent more and more each time I see them. So can second hand smoking cause addiction, just like smoking? Or do you actually have to…smoke it?
HM. Methinks I should stop hanging around with these people, particularly when they’re outside of school and smoking.

You know second hand smoke is more deadly then being a smoker?
You die quickly, and get things faster then the actual smokers.
But to answer your question, if it doesn’t turn you off and the scent appeals to you, then you have the craving to become a smoker.
I can’t stand the smoke or smell, it really pisses me off to see a person smoke b/c i got asthma due to the smokers in my building and one other thing (mold but long story).
You can tolerate it so therefore most likely in your case, you can become addicted to it…b/c i know alot of people like myself will never like the smell of that smoke and want to try that.
Having things like tar, arsenic and rat poison in me…no thank you.

It can’t cause addiction, but you might get over the irritation. I think at some point, exposure makes you numb to it. That might make you more willing to try it. Just don’t try it and you’ll probably be fine.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if you’re getting the feeling to want to smoke because you unconsciously like being around your friends. People have a tendency to copy off one another. It doesn’t take much looking around to find bad examples of that.
Perhaps if your friends smoke a lot, you should encourage them to do it outside or in large buildings with air circulation when they hang with you. At least that way it won’t be in your face. You could also suggest electric cigarettes. Electric cigarettes are like inhaling scented steam, from the looks of it. Be sure to tell them to shop around though, there are some that are ripoffs.
And if they don’t smoke so often, maybe you could just hang out with someone else at those times. That’s what I’d probably do.
