Question by levin j: Does age affect alcohol and heroin addiction?
I have heard of stories of a lot of grown-ups and middle-aged men getting addicted to heroin. I wonder if this is because they are old already. Does age really matter when it comes to getting addicted to drugs and alcohol?

Yes, age does matter when it comes to getting addicted to drugs and alcohol. Contrary to what you indicated, though, teenagers are more likely to become dependent on drugs and alcohol, rather than middle-aged individuals. This is because teenagers are still undergoing developments in their brain, and alcohol and heroin can impede growth, causing long-term and even permanent damages. According to a research ran by the National Institute on Alcohol Use and Abuse, those who start drinking before even reaching the age of 15 are actually four times more prone to developing alcoholism than those who start drinking at age 21.

It takes the human body less than 12 hours to get a heroin addiction. LESS than 12 hours! Age does not matter.
I personally believe alcohol addiction has a lot of variables: family history of drinking, not that it has too much to do with it overall; availability/ease of access, my mother did not lock up our liquor, but I didn’t drink excessively, either; role models, etc.
