Since one of the treatment steps for kicking an addiction requires some sort of a belief in a god or a higher power, what do atheists do to kick an addiction?

Atheists are usually welcome in AA without having to ascribe their recovery to a higher power but… This is the reason that Rational Recovery was founded. It’s a non-profit AA model for persons not wanting to address the concept of God in their recovery.
