Does My Friend Need Alcohol Addiction Treatment?
Question by annaliese r: Does my friend need alcohol addiction treatment?
I have a friend who stopped drinking alcohol two days ago and she has been experiencing what seems to me like withdrawal symptoms. She’s always craving alcohol and gets clammy hands. I told her these are signs that she should get herself treated for addiction but she won’t listen to me. Am I right? If so, what can I do?
Best answer:
Answer by astrid r
Your friend does have mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. (other signs would be restlessness, insomnia, dreams of alcohol, hallucinations…) These are indeed signs that she should get herself treated for her alcohol addiction. The best thing you can do is to get her checked up by a doctor and he will then assess your friend’s condition. Your friend needs to be treated for her withdrawal. If she’s not swayed by your pleas, you can do an alcohol intervention for her.

Is Couples Therapy a Good Addiction Treatment Method?
Question by bibiana xb: Is couples therapy a good addiction treatment method?
Would the involvement of the non-alcoholic spouse in the program of the patient be beneficial? Or would it just cause distraction? Why?
Best answer:
Answer by cesia b
Studies have revealed that when a non-alcoholic spouse joins in on the treatment program, the patient is likelty to participate more and continue to strive to become sober even after the treatment program is over. Couples therapy strengthens the benefits offered by the treatment program. Not only that, but it also forges a stronger bond between couples by encouraging them to solve their problems together, improve their communication skills, and engage themselves in a lot of shared activities. Couples therapy also comes with a relapse prevention plan. This method improves a couple’s marital relationship as well as helps the patient make his way into sobriety.
