Music only slows processing if competing for other aspects of attention, such as reading or studying.
It is exceptionally difficult to maintain divided attention for an extended period of time, which is why you’re having problems concentrating.
As far as your “addiction” to music goes, think on this; what will happen once the medical program becomes ultra demanding? What about doing rounds? What about seeing patients?
Gradually decrease the amount of time you listen to music and break the habit.
While you’re at it, see an audiologist for a hearing test. Those headphones are notorious for causing hearing loss.
You’ll have to rely on your natural intellect in college, I’m afraid.
