How Addiction Happens

Question by haha1000: Does addiction run in familiesa and is there a gene? Why do I get addicted so fast?
I am so sick of this. I get addicted to everything.
Here’s what I’m addicted to:
Opiates
Nicotine
Suboxone
Caffeine
Cigarettes
Cocaione
Heroin

I’m not addicted anymore, but I used to be. Out of all the drugs that I listed, Percocet/Oxycodone was my biggest enemy. I’m 33 and I’ve been using since I was 17. I’m now on Suboxone but I took 5 today and I”m only supposed to take 3 and a half.

How come I can’t control myself? I don’t understand. I have two arms, legs, everything and I still go and do this stuff.
Does anyone know why

i DEFINITELY do not do drugs, nor will i ever, but yes it does run in the genetics. if the generations before you had addictive traits then they are passed down to you.

There is a genetic link. There are several studies that support the idea that people are more susceptable to addiction if members of their family also have an addictive personality type.

I really urge you to work with an addictions counselor, your doctor, and your psychiatrist to overcome this before you die of a heart attack at 40. I’ve seen it happen way too many times, don’t become a statistic.
