Drug Resistance- Are Chromosomes Involved?

Question by cheese101: Drug resistance- are chromosomes involved?
Hello!

Do chromosomes affect a drug’s performance? If a person becomes resistant to a certain drug, are chromosomes involved in any way in causing this resistance?

Thanks for any help! 🙂
I mean drugs as in medicinal drugs such as antibiotics, chemotherapy etc. I want to know specifically how the CHROMOSOMES are involved, not genes.

Yes. Genetics has been proven to have a significant impact on the level of drug addiction of an individual.

I have provided you with the following sources below. Here are the claims made in the following sources:

– Genetics and drug addiction are related.
– Drug addiction is not determined by one single gene, nor it is determined by a well defined group of genes. The “drug addiction” genes are a series of genes which interact with each other to increase the potency of the addiction in a way which scientists do not fully understand yet.
– It is correct to claim that if drug addiction lies in your family, you will be more susceptible to drug addiction.
– The likelihood of continuing drug use varies from individual to individual.
– Genes have the power to increase/decrease the “power” of a drug, make an individual more/less resistant to a drug, and/or make an individual more/less reliant on a drug.
– Animal studies have shown that a variety of species can be bred for drug-accepting preference- confirming that genetics plays a large role in drug addiction.
