Help Me With My Internet Addiction?

Question by : Help me with my internet addiction?
This is going to sound really, really dumb and pathetic, but it’s serious..

Okay, June 2010 I started to play a game called Habbo. I had played it before but only for a few minutes at a time. Well in June, I joined a Habbo “military” and it was here that I met really good online “friends” of mine. I was not only addicted due to the “military work” (dumb I know…), but it was mainly because of my online friends. Around August I started to sort of online date another kid my age (16-18), although it was never official. We lived halfway across the world afterall.
I started neglecting my family, my friends and even my schoolwork. It really got so bad that my mom had to send me to counseling! It was ridiculous. I would get mad when I had to get off, and that’s after playing for like 5 hours. The relationships on habbo just felt so much better than in real life, probably because there was no consequences of what I did and it wasn’t technically real at all. Anyway, around May or June 2011, a year later, I finally was getting bored with the game and just stopped playing. I go on every 2 weeks-a month still to see my habbo “friends” and I still actually crave to play. I really want to stop and somehow forget it. Can anyone give me some tips?
And what haunts me the most is my online “boyfriend.” I was the most attached to him and he just cheered me up all the time. We don’t talk anymore and it really upsets me. Even though I know it’s SO stupid and pathetic, and that the game is boring, I just can’t help but feeling like I’m missing out and need to get on!

PS. I’m not some disgusting antisocial creature lol, I was actually very normal before my habbo encounter. I’d say I’m a little bit withdrawn from my friends still after Habbo as it has really effected me. Has anyone ever experience anything like this? How can I just learn to forget it?

Hello friend. Well my thoughts on this is as it follows. I think that everyone is going through these kind of addictions. Of course with the internet and the internet games it’s a lot easier to get addicted. As in most things in order to get out of something first of all is to realize your addiction your problem. The solution of a problem starts first of all with the realization of it, coming face to face with it. Than take your self, from the one hand and see what is happenig within you and check it if it’s right or is wrong, does it benefit you, or not? When you will come to a conslusion then you will be able to take your problem hand to hand and put it in the right place. You can even come to the place to forget it.
An other thing i believe, after the above process, is to start putting in your life other things that will get you related out from your pc and the internet. There are so many things i am sure that will get you excited doing them. There are so many things you can do. Go running. Swimming, go for a walk, read books that you are intrested in ecc.
I am sure you will do well. It’s important to learn to deal with your self and with the things around you. It’s importan for your well being to be well balanced. Try to gain your life and not to waste it. Life is short. So get as much as you can and enjoy it! (without hurting your self and others)
