How Long After Drug Addiction Do You Begin to Feel Normal Again?

Question by Juliiiie: How long after drug addiction do you begin to feel normal again?
Been sober since August 2008, two years later i still don’t feel like my old self. I still get that numb feeling, trigger points in some of the old places i revisit and the music i listen to, etc. I used a lot of opiates, daily for about three years. (17-20)

Will i ever feel like I did before? Could the drugs have permanently altered my body/mind?

Answer by Drake
If it even can recover depends on what drugs and how it effected the brain. Something that just tweeked with neurotransmitters and recepters could be recoverable. But that would be something that would mostly recover as you came down from the high of the drug….not long term effects unless it completely messed with the wiring. Anything that killed neurons would not recover. Neurons are cells that do not divide and create more cells. So dead cells are just completely lost and can not be replaced.
