How Can I Detox a Low-Dose Methadone Addiction at Home?
Question by Sara: How can I detox a low-dose methadone addiction at home?
I have been an opioid addict for 6years. Percocets(100-130mg a day) to heroin(a bundle a day). I detoxed myself off of the heroin 4 years ago cold turkey and stayed clean for a year before returning to perks and eventually methadone. I buy 10mg pills off the street and have been maintaining 10-30mgs a day for 5months. I have only taken it to keep from withdrawling and am desperate to be totally clean. PLEASE HELP ME.Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I have no insurance and am a 33 yr old mother of a beautiful babygirl.

Since u detoxed from heroin u know that, while opiate withdrawal can be horribly uncomfortable, it’s not physically dangerous. I’ve heard methadone is harder to get off than heroin (which I’ve done) because methadone has a longer half life. But here’s the good news. 10-30. Mg of methadone a day is a fairly low dose. One of the times I detoxed off heroin I did it in an inpatient setting. They gave me small amounts of methadone to help with withdrawal symptoms. The first day they gave me 20 mg, the next day 15 mg and kept cutting it by 5 mg a day. Within a few days I was off both the heroin and methadone. It took about 12 days until I felt totally normal. But that was probably cause I was still detoxing from the heroin. I think if u taper off the methadone as slowly as possible u should be fine.
