How to Get a Girl Out of Soda Addiction?
Question by Jello: How to get a girl out of soda addiction?
At the hotel where I work, we recently hired a girl as a bellhop who is basically addicted to sodas. I don’t want to use her real name, so I’m gonna call her Jessica. It’s just a name I pulled from nowhere.
Jessica and I went on a lunch break a few days ago, just as co-workers, at Chili’s. I drank water; I nearly always do, and she got soda. Through the lunch, she got at least five refills. I commented that she shouldn’t drink a lot of soda, but she said, I quote her exactly: “I only drink about five a day. That’s not much.”
I drink about five sodas a year. I have gone to various convenience stores checking out soda prices, and, from what I can tell, Jessica is spending between $ 2000 to $ 4000 a year just on sodas. A first-year bellhop only makes about $ 20,000 a year, so it almost scares me to wonder where she gets this money from. When I stressed this to her, she said what she said before at the Chili’s.
Constantly drinking soda affects overall, health. Some of the effects include increased risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, impotence, oral problems, and diabetes, just to name a few. She does admit she has frequent headaches and stomachaches, and her teeth look atrocious. Still, she insists five a day isn’t much.
Jessica and I are not particularly good friends, but I still care about her health. Do you have any idea how I can get some sense into her head?

If she won’t listen, eventually, a doctor will tell her and force her by telling her what could happen eventually. What you said or try to do is good since sodas is very bad for weight, diabetics, etc…
Answer by Jessica
She likely already knows, even though she doesn’t admit it. I’d talk to her about it, make your case, but if she doesn’t have any interest in changing there isn’t much you can do. I suggest starting out suggesting it might help if she just cuts back, rather than quits all together right away; that will also keep it from seeming like too much and make her more likely to agree.
