Is Addiction a Family Trait That Is Passed Down?
Question by Slam Pow: is addiction a family trait that is passed down?
my boyfriends(of 3 years) quit smoking last year, but both his parents and his brother smoke, he is very vunerable to addiction. 2 years ago we smoked pot almost every day but i never felt as if i needed it, but he always has.
– so my question is if we had children would our children be vunerable to addiction like he is or would it not affect them like it doesnt affect me?

I think more-so than hereditary problems, setting the example for your kids is the big factor. Your bf smokes because he was raised to think it was acceptable. If you and your bf don’t smoke when you have kids, chances are they will not smoke. Set a bad example and you get what you give.

No, the desire to smoke is not inherited. It has more to do with the environment around a person, such as whether the parents smoke or not (for example). Smoking is a choice. Whether or not your children would smoke would depend a lot on what they see their parents doing.
