Possibility I Have Depression?
Question by Mila: Possibility I have depression?
I found out I have a VERY high chance of having clinical depression by a personality test given to me by my school’s guidance office because I go there quite often to talk about what I think and other issues. I don’t know if it’s just teenage moody stuff or if it’s legitimate clinical depression. I don’t know whether I should get a test for this because my father and his side of the family think it’s just all in the mind. They think I can just suck it up and get better over time. My two sisters were tested for different types of mental illness and he got quite mad with my mom for letting them take the tests and at my sisters for thinking that they had any type of mental illness. I GUESS you can say that his family thinks lowly of the people who think they have a mental illness. Also, I know this sounds idiotic, but I’m actually quite afraid that the test and medications (if I’m ever given any) will cost a lot and we’re not the richest family. I wouldn’t want this to be a burden but I’m really torn because I’ve been feeling this way for more than a year and it’s not the least bit enjoyable feeling…this probably sounds really absurd as well but like I said, I’m really torn.

I was never really clinically diagnosed for depression but I went through many depressive episodes on and off during 2011 and the first half of 2012.
Depression is like a darkness that engulfs you, making you feel alone and numb. If that’s what you feel, then you might really be experiencing it. Also, depressed individuals have low self esteem, often feel as though they are not enough or worthy and at times, suicidal.
A LOT of people will tell you that it’s just a small thing. In a sense, I feel that most of everyone has felt depressed before. It can be for anything; a bad relationship, marital or familial conflict, economic or social problems. After all, what is there not to be depressed about? The world is crumbling into greed and corruption, and everyone is becoming so selfish and needy for silly wealth.
HOWEVER, it is also in the mind. I have faith that you can combat this and overcome depression just like I have. I was in the darkest place during those times but with a little faith will bring you far.
Just know that you can determine your own fate, that life can be better when you finally tell yourself that you are worth it. As individuals, we are so special in our own way, even if no one ever realizes that. As long as we do, we’ll make it through.
Have a dream. And live for it. Try thinking about growing old and being happy. Think about doing good in the world and the rewards will be remarkable. Always have faith, even in your darkest days.
Find something you love and fill your days with it. Find time to smile at people, even if you’re too shy or scared to do it. Make friends in different places. Listen to happy music that you love and read books to show you a world where loneliness is absent.
Good luck. Never give up. Be good to the world and to yourself.

Anyone could be diagnosed with a clinical illness. If you’re having problems you need a counselor to help you work through your issues. not a clinical diagnosis.
Medically, there is no concrete physical tie to these mental disorders. There’s no proof.
There’s n x-ray, blood test, or objective test you can take. These diagnosis’s are based purely Subjectively, its all opinion.

“Chemical imbalance is one hypothesis about the cause of mental illness.”

People need to do more research on the dsm, the psychiatrist’s bible. What they use to diagnose you.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnostic_and_Statistical_Manual_of_Mental_Disorders#Validity_and_reliability
There’s 5 versions. The theory of chemical imbalance was use to make the 3rd version of the dsm. Because of this theory it gave them validation to prescribe drugs. These diseases were voted into the manual. homosexuality was voted in for versions 1 & 2. In version 3 it was voted out. it wasn’t scientifically proven that homosexuality was a disease and it wasn’t scientifically proven that its not a disease. These illnesses are made into existence purely by thought. No science.
Calling a state of mind like depression and anxiety as an illness really messes people up. Because they think I’m sick, I can’t help it and I’m not sure if it went away. Am I cured yet?
They think its wrong not to take the drugs. When the drugs are dangerous and really unnatural. Its actually mentally unhealthy because it promotes addiction and dependency. Once a person tries to go on or off the drug people can become really unstable so other people think see that person needs to be drugged because without it they go crazy. When the drugs cause the problems.
Once the drugs wear off, if it helped, the person’s not going to be fixed because the drugs just mask the problem. People have to do the real work, REAL LEG-WORK of retraining their brain not to escalade. Once the brain goes too far into any state of mind its bad but its not an illness. Its about making better choices so that you can control your own moods better. Mental illness takes responsibility away from people taking control of their own minds. Things then get worse because nobody is stopping & redirecting the brain from escalating.
There’s a manual for babies now. Now babies who can’t talk can be considered mentally ill. DC-03
dsm 5 has internet addiction disorder. In china they have clinics to help teens who use the computer too much. treatment is electric shocking.
I don’t understand why people don’t see a problem with the world of clinical illnesses. And when people challenge it other people just get mad.
