Sugar Addiction?
Question by cassie b: sugar addiction?
I need some help. Some substutes for lollies or something please.
I have a healthy diet, good exercise routine but I eat too much sugary foods. I need suggestions of subsitutes that are healthy to help me.
Its not as simple as saying just dont eat them- heres the problem- I severed the nerve from my nose to my brain 4 yrs ago so my taste buds work (sweet, spicy, bitter, sour) but I cant taste flavours so my only enjoyment with food is from spicy or sweet food.
What can I do to satisy my sweet cravings yet not get the calories that go with it.

You can try substituting candies and frozen treats that contain artificial sweeteners if you like, but you want to have a care with those designed for diabetics. Too many of them contain xylitol, which is very sweet but tends to cause diarrhea or gas when too much is eaten. The other way is to simply indulge the craving with a controlled amount. The fastest way I know to set off a craving, and intensify it is to absolutely deny it. You end up feeling deprived, and as a consequence just want it all the more. Then when you do give in, you overdo it and feel guilty afterwards. Plus in the meantime you usually end up overeating in the process. Many fruits are actually pretty good in the frozen state as well, and might do as a stand in for an otherwise empty calorie ice lolly. You could also make your own sweet/spicy popcorn mix, for a snack with some redeeming qualities. Then you are in control of the amount of sugar, and it can be considerably less than what is in the preprepared stuff. Also, don’t overlook the fact that real sugar is not bad for you, just the amounts of it you eat can be bad. At least the body is set up to digest sugar, and it doesn’t have to be created in a lab and approved by the government. And finally, to capitalize on the natural sugars present in your veg, try roasting them instead of boiling. Roasting carmelizes those sugars and accentuates them, but there’s no change in the caloric content- you are just taking advantage of what’s already there and bringing it to the forefront. Veggies that don’t normally have what you call a sweet taste raw or boiled, like carrots and such, often do take on a sweetish taste when roasted.
