Question by why?: I’m addicted to coffee. How long will it take to shake the habit?
I’m going to stop cold turkey, and was wondering how long it takes before you don’t need the caffeine anymore. Personal experiences are appreciated!

I stopped cold turkey, just replaced the cofee with hot chocolate.

I hear people say you don’t have an addiction, but you have an addictive personality & i was just wondering whats the difference, addiction is addiction right, weather its personality or not, right? Explain if you will.

An example: I have an addictive personality and I’m addicted to alcohol. I’m in recovery for it. In the past I’ve been addicted to meth, pot, x, and lots of other things. I won’t try heroin because I know that I have and addictive personality and would get hooked on it. That’s also the reason I avoid pain meds or anything else I know could trigger my addictive personality. I’m clean from alcohol, so I’m not addicted right now, but if I drink again, I know my addictive personality will trigger an addiction.    Read more...

Question by t.: when are you technically “addicted” to something?
i use lortabs, pot, and alcohol quite often. i’ve tried to quit everything but bad times, and i end up back to them all, usually even harder then before. what i want to know is when can you technically say you have an “addiction”?

I think it is when they are following someone and that someone leads them to drugs. I would think they would have bad self esteem and very loose morals. They would need to believe in themselves and go to rehab to feel normal again.

Question by dbelsila: If someone is addicted to crack cocaine, is there any hope?
My 18 year old son is addicted to crack cocaine. I have tried to watch him; tried threatening; tried cutting off communication; nothing works. He now has stolen from me and he’s sitting in jail. I know he needs treatment, but ppl are saying its a lost cause; some say there is hope and some say he will always use. Is there any hope for recovery? Honestly?

Well for me being in and out of rehabs, i have seen many people recover and maintain sobriety after crack cocaine use. Its a very strong psychological addiction, but there is no physical dependence which makes it a little easier than most things, and is why they rely on psychotherapy. They used to say opiate addiction is a hopeless, but thats changed (considering experience). Its not hopeless, but it will be hard after treatment because u should just worry about his addictive personality, keep a close watch on him. well….how come you can’t know?…if you want to do it everyday and 3 times on the same day….yeah maybe….but it’s obvious..even though the person can think it’s normal….it might be addicted to it already….just have fun and wear condom..if it’s your case….good luck
