he probably shops either a. he likes fashion b. he’s coping with some kind of mental/social problem through raising his self-esteem (hence the new clothing..) idk if he needs classes, but maybe he could just go to a therapist to see WHY he buys the clothes..especially if he’s in debt because of it.

The only thing that I could find was a toll free number that refers people to treatment programs for such things as compulsive shopping and many other addictions. It’s 1-800-993-3869. This is a nation wide number but they may be able to refer your friend to a place in New York.    Read more...

It’s pretty easy to find addiction treatment centers. The links that I have included below can help you. I don’t think that you can interview the patients, though. Addiction treatment centers can be really strict when it comes to the privacy of the patients. You might have to settle for interviewing the therapists and counselors.
