Can I Help My Friend With Gambling Addiction??
Question by voiceeyeshands: Can I Help My Friend With Gambling Addiction??
I’ve known my guy friend since we were young and we’ve been really close these last 4 years. Over that time I’ve noticed he has a tendency to develop bad habits (gambling, drinking, smoking weed). When I try to voice my concerns he becomes defensive. I’ve been in a relationship where I’ve been codependent before, so I’m not looking to do that again – but there is a part of me that wishes I could help him.
So, the question is, should I try to help him, or just let him figure it out for himself?

It sounds to me like you know the answer already.
Do what you need to do to take care of yourself, until he is ready to quit, nothing you can do for him.

Why Substance Addiction Is Worse Than Internet Addiction?
Question by Leia: why substance addiction is worse than internet addiction?
Best answer:
Answer by E E
Because substance addiction generally leads to irreversible changes in your brain and disrupts normal neurotransmitter function. (Basically, it messes with the chemicals that allow your brain to work properly, and these kinds of problems are hard to fix).
One can argue that internet addiction also causes brain changes, as any type of learning does, but I would assume it is more easily reversed since no new chemicals are introduced into the brain, disrupting normal neurotransmitter function. Internet addiction is a habit, whereas substance addition is a habit PLUS some serious biological changes.
Hope this helps!

probably because internet addiction isn’t filling your body with chemicals :/

Breaking a Sugar Addiction?
Question by iloveweddings: Breaking a sugar addiction?
I am very fit and healthy looking, but lately I have been having such a craving for sugar and it’s gotten totally out of control over the last 1-2 months. I have always loved sweets, but again, lately it’s like an addiction that I can’t stop. I am steadily gaining weight from eating sweets and I need to stop! I am wanting some tips from others that have broken their sugar addiction. How did you do it? I imagine “cold turkey” is the way to go? Thanks to all who answer.
