Question by Katherine: How can I stop addiction to certain foods?
Mainly fast food…it’s not an addiction really but more that I cave whenever I think I’m doing good at staying away from fast food and soda. I’ve been trying but it’s just hard. What’s a good way to stop? Just self control? I don’t know if that is enough for me.
I feel so guilty. I just ate a burger and I haven’t gone to the gym today either. I even thought about canceling my membership but as much as it takes a tole on my paycheck it would take a tole on me even more if I didn’t exercise.
I also have a problem of eating when I’m upset. I’ve noticed the pattern.
I don’t want to end up like a cousin of mine at more than 300 pounds, constantly eating all day and doing nothing or having any concern for my health. I’m already at 225! Yes I know that is a lot. I’m fat. I realize that but how can I get help? Free clinics?
What about if I get the urge for fast food I go to subway? Aren’t they better? I mean if I got roast chicken or turkey or something on wheat with no mayo or anything like that. Or if I do go to mcdonalds or burger king I get a salad instead. Could that work and I could slowly pull away from fast food?    Read more...

Okay so since march, every time i drink alcohol i get cramps around my stomach and slightly under my ribs also going through to my back, i also am sick and my throat feels like its closing up. i also get a little bit sad .. it dosent matter what i drink i am not on any medication apart from my pill which i have been on for 7 months so i dont think it is this. its really getting my down i just want to know whats wrong.

I have a friend who stopped drinking alcohol two days ago and she has been experiencing what seems to me like withdrawal symptoms. She’s always craving alcohol and gets clammy hands. I told her these are signs that she should get herself treated for addiction but she won’t listen to me. Am I right? If so, what can I do?

Your friend does have mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms. (other signs would be restlessness, insomnia, dreams of alcohol, hallucinations…) These are indeed signs that she should get herself treated for her alcohol addiction. The best thing you can do is to get her checked up by a doctor and he will then assess your friend’s condition. Your friend needs to be treated for her withdrawal. If she’s not swayed by your pleas, you can do an alcohol intervention for her.    Read more...
