Question by Dustin: Why does our society respect people who overcome drug and alcohol addictions?
We are basically told from Kindergarten that we should not use drugs or alcohol. They tell us why it is bad for us and what kinds of problems it will cause for us. When people become addicted, everything that they were told would happen, does happen. From a logical standpoint, anyone who becomes addicted to drugs or alcohol is a complete idiot. They were told their throughout their entire life not to do it or bad things would happen. They did it and bad things happened. It deeply bothers me how people who make such directly atrocious decisions are respected and admired basically because they decided to stop acting stupid being a shitty person. I refuse to look up to someone or automatically respect a person who “battled an addiction”. Its their fault they became addicted.

a gateway drug is supposedly a drug that u start on and then eventually get tired of so u move to a “better” drug…me personally i dont think that marijuana is the gate way drug i feel that its the person who smokes the pot and so called friends that that person has … i know this because i have smoked it and i never done n e other drug …never wanted to ….
When ppl start smoking pot and then go to something else i dont feel that they go to the other drug for the high because they cant get high off pot n e more i feel that they go to the other drug because they know some one who does it and has access to it ….And not only that but some “friends” try to talk u in too doing other drugs. Its just that people need to be smarter then the average bear and learn the word NO!!!!!

From what I have read (..and “done” in my wasted youth.I don’t condone or criticize anyone for doing drugs as I feel that is their choice. I feel a person should be FULLY aware of what they’re doing and WHY they are doing it.) there are several factors; drug make-up, drug quality,dosage,physical condition and brain chemistry of the “participant”(i.e. if someone suffers from clinical depression where their serotonin levels are low, taking XTC would literally kill them, as it releases ALL of person’s serotonin at one time). They cover everything from drug history,chemical make-up,dosage,laws,etc.
Worth investigating.
