Causes of Addiction: Why Is There a Lack of Treatment for Video Game Addiction?
Question by Question Mark: Why is there a lack of treatment for video game addiction?
For some reason whenever I read a story on video game addiction or see a help website for video games people always seem to think the best way to treat it is to stop playing video games. But what’s the point? If I do have video game addiction I’m just going to move onto some other addiction. But then again, people spend all day on facebook, cell phones, television, texting, watching movies and so on and none seems to claim those are addictions. I play games for 3 hours a day and people seem to think that 3 hours is too long. I don’t think gaming addiction is real though. Just like how video games don’t cause violence. I mean, kids get obsessed with spongebob. When in adults they want to play video games they may be stressed out at work or they have some other problem in their marraige that they want to keep playing. So why is it considered an addiction by everyone else. But people use their cell phones, facebook, texting, internet or other hobbies? Why is there a lack of treatment for it?
@trance: It looks like that you just have a time management problem with your gaming. Why don’t you cut back on it a little and maybe do some other hobbies as well. All hobbies can become time consuming like working on a hobby car, or doing fishing, or anything like that.
Is There Some Sort of “rehab” Program for Video Game Addicts?
Question by May’n: Is there some sort of “rehab” program for video game addicts?
My boyfriend is in his early 20’s and has been obsessed with an online MMORPG for months now. At first, it was okay, but now it’s very bad. Generally, he’s logging eight hours per day, but it’s not unusual for him to play all night long, get zero sleep, nod off at work, and come home to play more. I’m worried that he’s addicted because, every time I ask him to stop playing in the middle, he literally can’t. He’s played for 14 hours in the past day already. He even almost called in sick to work because of it. Not only that, but he can’t converse while he’s playing it. He can’t finish sentences and he even says things that aren’t true that he doesn’t remember later, like he’s possessed. Sometimes he has phone interviews and he ruins them.
