Question by Rudolf: Why are video games such a problem?
I always hear about video game addiction. I am wondering what you guys think cause it. I for one am a gamer. I love video games. For me, I would probably say my “addiction” is that I can do so much in games. I can be a world leader (in Paradox Interactive games) or a hero (Skyrim). I could be them in real life, but that would require a LOT of work. I wish I had the self-discipline to just study 24/7 and enjoy it. Then I could become what ever I want. Sadly, games allow me to be what ever I want, and I do not have to study and work like crazy. That is what I think. What about you guys?
People, do not make this about me. I still get good grades (straight A’s). I still study, just not as much as I should. I want to know general addiction, and what you think the cause is.    Read more...

Question by Question Mark: What age should one stop playing video games?
I’m starting to think I shouldn’t be playing video games anymore. I am 19 and I enjoy gaming and the creative elements of it. I view it as an art as much as movies. But as of late people keep telling me I’m wasting my time or how I’m going to be addicted of how it’s going to suck away my life. I seriously hate these kinds of people and I don’t believe games cause you to be violent or addicted. People will stand up for games when they cause violence but everyone gets teary eye when people throw around “addiction” to video games. I usually play videogames 3 hours at night between 8 to 11 and most people will think that’s too much but to me that’s nothing. But I’m not so sure if quitting will be the best option for me. I feel like I would be worse or more bored than if I didn’t play games.    Read more...

Ok. So I have a comment about the so called “Video game addiction”
If video game addiction is truly an addiction than why isn’t there any studies on people who are addicted to watching television? Surely people watch 20 to 40 hours a week on television but none ever thinks of calling that an addiction. Also, what is with the idea that video games cause low grades? What about the people who would rather do sports than spend time doing homework? Why don’t we ever question guys like that? Why is it that video games are always taking the blame for this kind of thing? Or what about people who thinks that video games make you anti social? How about the people that like to read books all day long? They are just as anti social as playing video games. Or what about video game violence? You never hear about a sports fan getting all upset about people being agressive after he watched his team lose a match. What do you think about this?    Read more...
