Question by worldrunner2000: What is the difference between Type I and Type 2 acoholism? (Or is it Type A & Type B alcoholism?)?
I work in the Substance Abuse field and see both problem drinkers (meeting DSM IV criteria for “Abuse”) and addicted individuals (meeting at least 3 of 7 criteria for Dependency). How can I explain types of alcoholism (not problem drinking, i.e. abuse) and the Types to a class to help them better understand themselves?

Hi I am a medical transcriptionist not a doctor but still i know little thing about alcoholism and pysch. DSM datas. Type 1 alcoholism accounts for about 75% of alcoholics and is characterized by the following signs and symptoms:
The onset of alcohol-related problems occurs after the age of 25.
A low degree of spontaneous alcohol-seeking behavior and alcohol-related fighting. Psychological dependence, coupled with guilt and fear about alcoholism. A low degree of novelty-seeking and a high degree of harm avoidance. Type 2 alcoholism is characterized by the following signs and symptoms: The onset of alcohol-related problems occur before the age of 25. There is a high degree of spontaneous alcohol-seeking behavior and fighting. Infrequent feelings of guilt and fear about alcohol dependence.    Read more...

Private drug rehab programs are rising up to the challenge to make sure that people leave drug addiction for good. Definitely, a challenging task considering that there is rise in the number of drug and alcohol related cases with prescription drug abuse also adding to the burgeoning figures. But these rehabilitation centers that are known for their quality treatment remain unwavering in their approach to make sure that the counts of people who are addicted come down tremendously.

 Though the popular perception is that the cost of treatment is high, the interesting thing to note is that most of these rehabs are slashing their fees and even coming out with easy financing options that make it convenient for everyone to pay the fees.  Now, private drug treatment centers are not visited by just the elite and the rich socialite, anyone can avail of the treatment by paying the money in parts instead of coughing the entire amount at one go. Also most health insurance companies are coming with better terms to give coverage to drug addiction.  The government in its clean-up act is cooperating with private drug rehabs so that people can be rehabilitated, and in some states, they are also willing to fund the expenses partly.     Read more...
