How to Help My Boyfriend With His Lying Addiction?

Question by Sunny: How to help my boyfriend with his lying addiction?
My boyfriend has a serious lying addiction, he lies to everyone about everything and he knows i know what he lying about, so he doesn’t think he is lying because i am smart enough to realize the truth. But
honestly i am very sick of it, and just want him to learn to deal with being a reliable, honest person with all the bad side effects and all, by telling people something they might not even like to hear.
I am thinking about breaking up possibly some time in the future (few months time), if he doesn’t fix his mental illness, i am considering getting a relationship counselor to help us so he can at least feel comfortable telling me the truth, or is a therapist better? Any suggestions how to help him?

Help With Guilt From a Sinful Addiction?

Question by Robert: Help with guilt from a sinful addiction?
I am a Christian and so the sin is masturbation… or the sexual fantasies during it, since that’s the sinful part. I went 3 days without doing it, temptation wasn’t even an issue cause I thought of it as something terrible and felt way too guilty to do it. So I can stop doing it, but when I do my depression and anxiety gets worse and I feel panicky all day. And today I did it just to make the chronic panic go away, and it worked except I get panic now from something else: the guilt from sinning and committing adultery with my heart. This is a tough situation… would God want me to suffer the panic from not doing it and try to quit again cause it’s right? Would the panic eventually go away? Like is it a temporary withdrawal symptom or something? I feel like he’s mad at me now and it’s leaving me feeling upset and guilty… I would really appreciate some advice.
Just another Jesus freak: it’s not the temptation that’s a problem, like I said the guilt prevents the temptation. It’s the effects I feel from not doing it that’s the problem.

Causes of Addiction: For People Who Had a Parent Struggling With Addiction…?

Question by ktron – respect my atheati!: For people who had a parent struggling with addiction…?
Did you find a way to blame yourself for that parent’s addiction? Do you still feel guilty, even if you know it wasn’t really your doing?

Of course I felt guilt at times. I kept thinking I could do more, be a better kid, tried harder in school, ect. This was years ago when I went through all this with both of my parents. As for now, no I don’t have any guilt. They were grown adults putting pressure on me as a child to grow up to fast. That’s on them, it wasn’t my problem. If you are having to deal with this, I’m so sorry. Its not an easy way to live but if you keep with you what you are feeling like and you yourself don’t become an addict, then you have learned a lesson and that’s what matters in this life. Stopping the bad patterns our parents had and learning from them. Good Luck to you! :^)

Causes of Addiction: Can You Replace Hydrocodone With Ibuprofen?

Question by Ken: Can you replace Hydrocodone with Ibuprofen?
I recently got my wisdom teeth removed and I got a prescription for pain killers and an infection prevention pill. I quickly crashed after at home and my mom got the prescriptions.

She replaced the hydrocodones that were supposed to be used for pain killers with ibuprofen. Is this safer? I’ve heard that hydrocodone is addictive, but is it really better this way?

The dosage is 1 pill every four hours for the hydrocodones compared to the three pills of ibuprofen every four hours.

I Need Help With Withdrawals?

Question by Rita: I need help with withdrawals?
Just so you know, im not looking for “validation for my addiction”.
Im 19, female.
Ive been illegally addicted to xanax for about a year now.
I take about 3 bars a day.
And ive finally reached a point where i cant get them anymore.
So how do i deal with the “cold turkey” withdrawals?
I feel like complete shit and my moods are ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Is there ANYTHING to help these symptoms?

Answer by Not Sure
You need to eat and just suffer through it. You need to find a hobby and set some long term goals that you can realistically achieve. You need to replace your addiction with another addiction like a sport or a musical instrument or college. Well college is much of an addiction, but it will make you a better person.
