What Cities Are the Best Places for African Americans to Succeed and Why?

Question by Choc1: What Cities Are The Best Places For African Americans To Succeed And Why?
Please tell me why you like that particular city.

I live in L.A. and I’m getting tired of it. It seems like it’s hard for “us” to make it out here due to the cost of living and the schools are crap.

And to all the opposers, I’m not into segregation…do not turn my question into something it is not. You MIGHT learn something!!

*No Racist Or Reverse Racial Remarks!!
Yeah, I got a feeling Atlanta is going to be on the list. I heard there are some fine women in ATL.
No Sweetheart, college is not FREE in California, nor is it basically free, lol! And Kentucky would probably have to be one of the worst places for Blacks. I heard it was racist, and that’s coming from Blacks that reside in that city. By the way, I can’t see someone leaving L.A. for Kentucky. Thanks for your comment, though…I do appreciate your feedback!
I meant Blacks that reside in that STATE!

Atlanta.

I have been to quite a few cities in the US. Atlanta impressed me. There were quite a few blacks there and by simply picking up the news paper I noticed quite a few blacks in the news under a positive premise.

PS: Lots of hot black girls too 😉

I think it has more to do with the person than the surroundings. I’m not saying that you’re wrong. I understand that there are limitations to what can be achieved by the average person in certain surroundings. But I also know that an ambitious person will succeed no matter what the situation. Besides isn’t college free or basically free in California?

That aside, I really love Louisville. It’s not like the rest of Kentucky at all. It’s really diverse and when the Derby comes around it’s like a week long holiday almost. Most of the people are really friendly, low crime rates, and lots of stuff to do. The cost of living is pretty low compared to most other cities of it’s size. The city isn’t as segregated by income, there’s low income housing scattered throughout the city (although I have to admit that downtown there are more section 8 housing than other places). The city also has a large population of union workers (like UPS and Ford) so people aren’t so uptight when you tell them what you do for a living. It’s just really laid back, no one cares what you do as long as you aren’t bothering anybody else.
