What Does “Worlds an Addiction” Mean?

Question by Atiya: What does “worlds an addiction” mean?
I’ve heard people use it but I can’t figure out the context. And I’ve heard the song by nas. I really don’t get the saying though?

I think it’s being used in the sense that churches often use “the world”. That instead of looking to your own spiritual growth (not necessarily religious) and family, you are looking outside, into “the world” for your happiness.

For instance, in the nas song, he says, “I need the best things in life, that’s women, that’s cars
Cigars in Venice, bottle on ice” — material things, not personal connections and growth. He ends with, “We all need faith cause the world keep changing; Let go of the illusion, start some restraining”.

Stop being addicted to things, restrain your voracious appetite for material goods.

The actual lyrics and some explanation by nas are at the link.
