Become addicted to something else

If you are admitting your an addict your on your way. If you are asking because of another person understand now you cannot help them they need to help themselves. I will assume you are asking for yourself and I could tell you to go to NA or AA meetings because you can’t do this by yourself. That would be excellent advice and that is what you would hear if you were in rehab. Unfortunately the failure rate or relapsing is very high. It could take many tries to finally get and stay sober. I am not trying to sound hopeless just realistic. That said you can’t do it by yourself and need to work with an addiction counselor as an outpatient. I went to an inpatient 30 day program the first time and felt alienated from the other people because I used prescription pain medication to treat chronic pain and was not a junkie. I did a 10 day outpatient program next and the NA meetings, 30 meetings in 30 days were a waste of my time because I did not believe in a higher power. I had many excuses and denial is the sure sign of addiction. Finally my husband left me. That’s when I finally realized I had to quit and I did by myself but with what I learned in rehab. That was 5 years ago and we are back together and better then ever.
Addiction is a disease and needs to be treated but unless your ready to get serious and do the time and work nothing will help.
