Causes of Addiction: How Does My Essay Sound So Far??? :-//?

Question by LaLa: How Does My Essay sound so far??? :-//?
I have to write an essay about what a certain poem means. So I decided to the poem ” Brotherhood By Gerry Anderson ”

Have you ever thought about how addicted and desperate some people are? The poem I am going to talk about talks about desperation in life, and hope for a better world where people are more caring and concerned about their future. The poem Brotherhood by Gerry Anderson goes over this theme.
Before I talk about this poem, I am going to tell you what Literary Devices Gerry Anderson uses in his poem. He uses “Mood”, by making the poem very depressing at the beginning, but then he changes it to being a hopeful mood. He also uses First Person point of view. This is good because if he would have used third person, the poem would have been weird because he would have been saying things like ” They silently cried. ” This wouldn’t haven’t been good because no one can really tell what other people are feeling.
Before the author starts this poem he tells you that he was inspired to write the poem because of all the ” heartache addiction causes. ” He said he had read a poem of a ” girl who’s brother ended up in a hospital with a body crushed and a mind and spirit robbed from addiction. ” The poem had touched his heart, so he decided to write the poem ” Brotherhood ” for all of those near and dear to the lost in spirit.
If you look at this poem, some evidence of this theme is in the first sentence, ” I walk slowly down the streets paved with sadness,”. This means that he is walking down a street and all he sees are people who are upset with their life. The poem then goes on to saying “Desperation plagues their dark hollow eyes,”. The meaning of this sentence is that these people are upset and you can tell it just by the looks in their eyes.
Next, in the second paragraph of this poem, he starts to talk about the children he sees at the park that are smiling, laughing, and playing around, and how their hearts are filled with love and trust in their eyes. Then he goes to say that he silently cries. He silently cries because he knows that the children are very innocent right now, but as they get older their lives will change for the worst because they will have problems in their lives just like every other adult has.
Once you get towards the end of this poem, the story starts to change from the Narrator feeling sad for these people, to him hoping that everyone’s attitude will turn for the better. Such as in the line ” I hope for a future, a better tomorrow, for people who need compassion and care. ” Also in the line, ” Hope for a future of love , faith and joy , I pray for the lonely the sick and the lost , That someone would take the time to reach out. ”
The Last Sentence is in this poem is ” For are we not really everyone’s brother? ” The author is trying to say that he doesn’t understand why we can’t all get along and care for one another because, truly, everyone is related in one way or another.
In Conclusion , the author is hoping and praying for the world and the people in it to become happier and for everyone to care for each other.
