Hydrocodone Addiction?

Question by : Hydrocodone Addiction?
I need help. I am addicted to hydrocodone and I am more than ready to quit. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I need advice on the best way to quit and what I can expect. I have been taking about 500 mg per day (50 10mg) for almost two years.

I have tried to cut back but that doesn’t work well for me. Because of that, I feel that cold turkey is probably the best thing for me. I have never gone longer than 8 to 12 hours without pills. At that amount of time, I begin to experience watery eyes, runny nose and yawning. I know it will get worse but don’t know what to expect.

Going to rehab is not an option for me. I am an executive married to a law professional and this cannot come out.

I really need information and advice. Please.
Rehab is not an option. Telling my husband is not an option. I need to know what to expect and typically how long it will last. Will I die from this? I have a pretty unlimited supply and don’t seem to have the willpower to wean myself off. For me, I feel that just flushing them down the toilet and not having any in the house will be my best option. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I know what it’s like to hide this. You’re married? Hasn’t it changed things between you and your spouse? I know how hard it is to maintain relationships while taking opiates. I think you should confide in your husband. I mean, you have been lying to him for 2 years. I don’t think that is fair if you still love him.

Cold turkey isn’t the best idea. I’ve had withdrawals after just 1 day of not taking them and it was almost impossible to get through. You’re going to want the pills so bad that you will probably give in. I’m going to rehab early next month because I know I can’t get off of them myself.

well the good news is that you are addicted to one of the weeker drugs in the opiate family. cold turkey you can try and the worst will be over in four days but you will feel drained for a couple of weeks after butthe main distress is the four days…with detoxing. drink tonnes of water and rememember the effects go in waves so just when your ready to quit you may find after 5 mins you are sitting in bed quite calm again. if i were going to go cold turkey i would get prescribed a benzodiazepine like librium or valium to help with the anxiety but my best advice to you in my opinion is this.
i assume you are getting the tablets from your doctor and cannot get them elsewhere. if you cannot control your dose then try and arrange with the doctor that you pick your tablets up daily so you cannot delve into your weeks supply. this will hopefully allow you to tailor down all the way off or at least to get to a point where going cold turkey is allot easier. main thing, talk to your doctor and if they do not have experience in addiction ask them to ask around there colleugues for a doctor that does so they can ut a plan together for you. btw i have detoxed several times when i was very ready so watch out for the relapse… allso try narcotics anonymous. they can help you with this and they are a life line. not perfect but there and free to all….
