How Addiction Happens

For many years it has been debated whether addiction should be considered a disease or not.  Some say that it is, but some believe that it is a behavior developed by choice.  Whether addiction is a disease or not is a very important question in relation to addiction treatment, especially when it comes to insurance coverage.  Insurance companies are very particular about what conditions they will cover, and some have made a compromise by covering some drug rehabilitation treatments, but not all.  This provides some credence to the belief that addiction is actually an illness that warrants medical attention.
