I’ve heard that fighting would worsen the fixation on the addiction and cause it to become worse. Should you resist or give in but with moderation?

Quitting anything is a huge mind game and thats it..yes the physical addiction part is going to suck but you gotta remember that its all in your head and try to find an activity to do when a craving strikes.Good Luck, its hard work and the only one that can do it is yourself

It depends on the addiction.
For instance: Quitting cigarettes can make you very moody and anxious. Yet it will not have a physical effect. You can quit completely depending on your willpower. You usually will not need a doctor unless you’ve tried many times and you want to get on the patch or something.
If you are an alcoholic, depending on how much you drink, you could have the shakes, mood swings, sweating, even a seizure. You might want to go to a hospital so they can detox you in a safe setting and give you any medication you might need to help with the withdrawal.
Google the type of addiction you have and you should be able to find plenty of websites that will give you tips on quitting.
