Addictions need to always be fed which leads to frustration and anxiety which then leads to anger and despair. You hate YOURSELF for being the addict that you are and you hate others for not helping you. Anger at yourself usually turns outward to anger at the world in general. Loneliness comes from distancing yourself from people. There is nothing more important than the drug or drink. Also, people don’t want to spend time with addicts. Addicts have no interests besides getting the next high. Since shared interests are the things that make friends what they are, it’s hard to hold on to those friends. The loss of friends (and sometimes family) is common.

It’s usually the other way around. People get into addiction because of hatred and lonliness, confusion, unhappiness. The addiction is the way to cope.
