What Is My Reaction to Valium? Cravings or Is That Apart of the Medicine?

Question by Nurse Joker: What is my reaction to valium? Cravings or is that apart of the medicine?
Today I got my period and it was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I took a couple of ibuprofen and had a shot of pepto bismol, but I was really dizzy, nauseas, and hot. I was in so much pain! I was literally screaming from the pain it’s never been that severe before.

Anyways, my mom came (because she heard me screaming) and she gave me a little pill. She wouldn’t tell me what it was except that it was a muscle relaxer. Long story short the pill kicked in really fast, about 15-20 minutes, the pain stopped completely and I took a little nap. Afterwards I got out of bed and felt great. I was actually in a really good mood and really happy.

I went into the medicine cabinet (out of curiousity) and found out she gave me prescription valium. The bottle said not to drive or drink alcohol, etc. and that it might cause depression or dizziness, but I got the opposite reaction I felt great. My first thoughts were “I should take valium everytime I get my period, I feel great!” and then my second thoughts were “wait, is this a sign of an addiction?”

I naturally have a personality where I get addicted to things very easily, but was my reaction just me or is it apart of the medicine? My grandma said that it’s very addictive….

Is it a good idea to take valium on my period? I’m going to the obgyn soon and might get on BC but valium made the crampings faster than anything I’ve ever taken before, and I also have depression and it made me feel great. I’d only take it on my period to relieve the pain, I won’t take it to get high. What do you think?
I’m 16, btw and usually get severe cramps on my period

Tell your OBGYN how bad your cramps are. She’ll give you the correct birth control to minimize the cramps. It worked for me. I too, have an addictive personality. Don’t ask for Valium, it is very very addicting. Trust me. You say you’ll only take it on your period, but soon it’ll turn into I have a headache I need a pill kind of thing. I know a lot about addictions, it runs in my family. Just be careful.
