What Is the Main Argument to Classify Alcoholism as a Disease?

Question by ilpjg: What is the main argument to classify alcoholism as a disease?
Because all arguments don’t make sense at all…
Genetic/Hereditary – even laziness can be hereditary…that’s why when women donate their eggs they’re required to be “perfect, college educated, etc”
Lose of control – people who are fat keep eating without control and eating is not a disease, people who like to speed up on high ways can’t help it either and it’s not a disease..having sex is for many people uncontrolable too Addictive – internet is addictive too…there are a loooot of people who couldnt live without it…but it’s not a disease…and many other things are addictive too (and cause you damage), but are not diseases
Changes the body – eating also changes your body, exercising also changes your body, having babies also changes your body, ingesting lead also changes your body…of course that if you put something toxic in your body it will damage it

At the most, it is an illness (causes you to feel really bad)…but the fact of not stop drinking is not a disease.
I’m just asking because I’m writing a paper for school saying that alcoholism is not a disease…so I’d like to know why 90% of people think it is…

also, i’m a foreigner, so dont criticize my english…i’m still learning
So alcoholism is an allergy?
and the result is desire?

I understand that you can have an allergy to alcohol and not tolerate it…
but have an allergy and want it?

is alcoholism the only allergy that instead of repelling you from the alergenic, makes you want it?

People inherit a certain type of brain chemistry than makes them prone to alcoholism, or other addictions. This is because they are trying to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, or even sugars.
There’s a very distinct pattern. Grandparent or parent was alcoholic. Next generation is either an alcoholic or highly addicted to sugar, and third generation inherits an even weaker brain structure and those children had ADD or other mood disorders. I can’t imagine what brain chemistry the ADD-children’s kids will have.

it is of my own opinion that alcoholism is not a disease at all…it depends on how u handle urself when ur under the influence of alcohol..like artist who generates their mood or energy through alcohol..it is not always a disadvantage to be alcoholic…however, it is always best to DRINK MODERATELY…
