Causes of Addiction: Is It Possible to Have an Actual “addiction” to Anger?

Question by Maya: Is it possible to have an actual “addiction” to anger?
Or rather, an addiction to the entire process of growing anger, and the release that follows? For years it seems I’ve continued in this pattern, and I never can find the root of the problem. I rarely even know why I am angry. But I am ashamed of the way I release it at times… I end up either hurting my loved ones or damaging my belongings. But in spite of the damage it causes, I always feel so good when it blows over. Is there an effective way to break this cycle?

You can become addicted to the release given by the body during bouts of anger/frustration/rage. The mixture of adrenaline and endorphins is quite intoxicating.
One way to get out of this destructive loop is to engage yourself in alternate activities. Something that lets you channel rage in an effective and approved manner… Martial Arts! You can learn to take all of your pent up anger and put it into a devastating strike or attack against an opponent trying to do the same to you. Plus, Martial Arts will teach you self control, so you don’t fly off the handle at loved ones anymore.
